Located between the medieval county town of Shrewsbury and Houseman’s “Blue remembered hills,” there is a wealth of places to visit and things to do. The Stiperstones, Long Mynd (7,000 acres and an area of outstanding natural beauty) and Caer Caradoc provide breathtaking views and wonderful walking. In the foothills of the Long Mynd is Church Stretton, known as Little Switzerland and worth a leisurely visit, to indulge yourself in its leisurely pace.

National Trust properties in the area are many. The closest being Attingham Park. Berrington Hall and Croft are at Leominster and Erddig is at Wrexham, Dudmaston Hall at Bridgnorth, Wilderhope Manor, Near Much Wenlock and Sunnycroft at Wellington, to name just a few. Other mainstream attractions include the medieval market town of Ludlow, renowned for its Michelin starred restaurants, Castle and Arts Festival (June). Market Drayton is the home of gingerbread and provides canal trips.

Llangollen takes it a step further to a horse drawn barge. The Severn Valley Steam Railway, based at Bridgnorth, is very popular as is the delightful steamtrain journey from Welshpool to Llanfair through the Welsh foothills. Ironbidge, renowned as the birthplace of industry, provides ten museums and an authentic taste of Victorian life.
